This research investigates, through ethics models applied in marketing, consumer claims for morality as a need that emerges when industry performances do not meet consumer morality expectations.
From this standpoint, it is posited that the consumer need for morality, once identified, can be fulfilled as well as any other need, and should occupy a central position in any marketing decision.
Research findings suggest that the marketing managers, who were interviewed, perceived that the solution of ethical issues is crucial to the welfare of long term businesses and that, in marketing terms, consumers ethical claims may be read as a need for morality.
